Description
Phases are paramount in the life of the sockeye salmon, one of the most important fish in the Pacific Northwest. Not only are salmon historically honored by local indigenous communities as an important source of food, but when tourists think of Seattle they imagine salmon being tossed back and forth by fishmongers in Pike Place Market. The sockeye salmon’s distinctive humped shape and red color is associated with their return from the Pacific Ocean to the rivers and streams where they were born, spawning their own offspring to continue the cycle of life.
